Mai [[1811]] in Braunschweig; † 31. Dezember [[1891]] in Helmstedt) war Forstsachverständiger, Schriftsteller und Stifter des Clarabades. 1868 erfand er eine Flügelsäge zur Aufästung ohne Leiter. Diese Erfindung wurde in mehreren Ländern patentiert und machte Alers noch bekannter als seine bis dahin bereits erschienenen Schriften.<br /> <br /> Nach ihm ist die [[Alersstraße]] in [[Helmstedt]] benannt worden.<br /> <br /> == Beschaffenheit ==<br /> Auf dem Grabstein sind folgende Zeilen zu lesen:<br /> :&#039;&#039;„Hier ruht der herzgl. Auflage, 2004.&lt;/ref&gt;<br /> <br /> == Sanierung 2008 ==<br /> Dank der Initiative des Ehrenbürgermeisters [[Hans-Otto Kieschke]] und der Fördermittel der Stiftung Braunschweigischer Kulturbesitz (5.800,– €), des Landes Niedersachsen (3.000,– €) und der Alma-und-August-Müller Stiftung (3.500,– €) konnte die Sanierung der Grabstätte des Forstmeisters Alers im Dezember 2008 abgeschlossen werden. „Damit die Substanz nachhaltig gesichert werden kann, ist eine Grundsanierung erforderlich geworden“, erläuterte Stadtbaurat Thorsten Kubiak. Die durch Wurzeln verschobenen Einfassungssteine der Grabstätte wurden neu ausgerichtet und verklammert.
